Jacks Restaurant & Lounge Restaurant Review: Visitors to Old Monterey and the Monterey Conference Center crowds have this convenient place to dine. Dark wood paneling, casino-patterned carpeting, dim lighting, broad striped booths and portals mimic a cruise ship. Diners are well looked after by attentive servers. During weekday lunches, the salad bar is brimming with Salinas Valley produce, house-made soup, and plenty of other goodies. (We wish they'd label the dressings, though.) At dinner, start off with some local calamari or the fresh spring roll with organic vegetables. There's plenty of seafood, from cioppino to fresh Dungeness crab (in season), but carnivores have options like osso buco, lamb, and Harris Ranch beef. Chef Jason Giles follows the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program of sustainable dining.
