| Located, of all places, across the street from one of the Hub's most legendary pubs, Jake's Boss BBQ is ground zero for many a local barbecue fanatic. Owner-pitmaster Kenton Jake Jacobs is a local legend who's peddled his edibles everywhere, from Texas to Boston-area parking lots to the ballyhooed East Coast Grill in Cambridge. Now, at his own place in Jamaica Plain, he serves a crowd of wildly mixed ethnicities, tax brackets and zip codes. The house specialty is Texas brisket, smoked some thirteen or so hours to a divine state of melting meatiness. Chicken wings zap with a sweet chili heat. Mixed with burnt ends, the cowboy beans are smoky magic, but the pulled pork could use more of an acid bite. Grab some Wetnaps and ignore the bland décor. Or get your 'cue to-go and listen to some live music at the neighboring Midway Café. |
