Since the closure of the dining room upstairs, Jer-Ne's bar functions as The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common's sole eatery. Sporting a more contemporary, modern design than you’d expect from a name synonymous with old-world posh, Jer-Ne takes a similar approach to a menu that nonetheless seems to suffer from an identity crisis---should it stick to gourmet snacks, or nudge customers toward full meals? In its current incarnation, it’s attempting to do the latter---mistakenly in our view. Given the shape-shifting crowd of tipplers, the cramped table area and the less-than-ritzy service, Jer-Ne just isn’t the place to linger over 40-dollar plates of roast lamb. We say it’s time to reprise the fondues and finger foods, and leave it at that.
