THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Jerusalem Restaurant Review:
The owners backgrounds are reflected in this glatt kosher restaurants menu. Egyptian-born Joe Halawani honed his skills as kitchen manager in the Sinai during his army days, graduated from a hotelier school and was head chef for Ben Gurion Airports catering. His wife, Moroccan-born, Israeli-raised Rachel, has been in the catering business for more than 30 years. In their cheerful eatery, a stunning mural depicting the wailing wall and surrounding area is painted on one wall, humorous Israeli prints adorn another. The traditional matzoh ball soup is a winner. Israeli chopped eggplant with tomatoes and onions is popular. Try the cigars of Moroccan beef in an Israeli pastry shell or the Israeli specialty of chopped beef or chicken sautéed with pine nuts on a plate of sublime hummus.
