Jinsei Restaurant Review: Soft lighting and beautifully presented dishes make Jinsei a favorite for an upscale date night. With its dark interior and splashes of color, this is an intimate jewel box of a restaurant. Tempura green beans are a popular starter, but there’s an array of tempura offerings including pumpkin, lotus root and yamagobo (pickled burdock root). The signature cold dish is Kadoma tuna, with slices of avocado fanned around a fried and cooled disk of sushi rice, which is topped with spicy tuna, jalapeño and flying fish roe. The eponymous special roll is all silky texture with yellowtail, tuna and avocado --- until the taste buds are shocked with a sliver of jalapeño. Hot dishes include black cod with miso and crispy ginger flounder as well as the popular Kobe beef baby burgers. River Rock Kobe beef is presented raw to sizzle on hot rocks nestled in salt. There is a nice selection of wine and saké, or try a cucumber or blackberry mojito. Jinsei offers special pricing on some sushi and cocktails on Sunday and Monday and half-priced bottles of wine on Tuesday. |
