John Street Cafe Restaurant Review: New owners took the reins of this friendly and immaculate diner, but longtime patrons can relax --- little has changed. Omelets remain the center of the menu. One makes a generous meal and sometimes is enough for two, given the standard “three eggs and a ton of filling” size. The avocado, bacon and Jack cheese omelet is probably the most popular, but others, such as the Cajun rock shrimp number or the marinated chicken, are also well worth trying. Sides such as hash browns, buttered toast, homemade raspberry jam and even the mandatory sliced orange all measure up to standards set by the main dish. Don't like eggs? Try the black currant and filbert pancakes. Lunch-goers may want to consider the quesadillas or the blackened fish sandwich. When the sun shines, enjoy your meal outdoors on the patio. Expect to wait for a table on weekends.
