John's Place Restaurant Review: This neighborhood restaurant has become a magnet for young, urban parents --- many of whom head straight for the chopped salads. The fried calamari is fine; so is the gumbo. You’ll also encounter diverse dishes like Mayan skirt steak, fish tacos and seared chicken in a spicy peanut sauce, so it's ideal for the whole family. But it's the brunch fare --- especially the pancakes --- that draw us here. We're not alone, which is why you might have to wait in line on the weekends. Also located at 2132 W. Roscoe St., 773-244-6430.
