A cut above most college town cafés, Kai's serves not only a terrific happy hour but surprisingly good food as well. UW students looking for drink deals come for the $3 well drinks and microbrews. But the refined casual atmosphere, sophisticated wine-colored walls, and low-key décor also make it a good choice for date night. Recommended dinner options include chicken pot stickers, chili-spiced tiger prawns, and Manila steamer clams in a heady lemon grass-ginger broth flecked with garlic and tomato bits. Portions are generous, whether you order the juicy grilled burger or a Greek salad scattered with feta and dressed with a red wine-oregano vinaigrette. No room for dessert? That's fine because there's no dessert menu here.
