Karaikudi is a small, intimate Indian restaurant that offers a daily luncheon buffet, and an all-vegetable version on Wednesdays as well. Look for the honest rasam, a thin spicy broth that should clear the palate. With luck, you will find a chili chicken entrée that could sear your eyebrows, but milder dishes might well include chicken tikka masala and kadai goat, a stewy mixture of meat and vegetables. Note that the food represents the Chettinad-style of cooking served near the area of Tamil Nadu in India, and the cooks don’t water down the spicing to suit Western palates. Main courses on the extensive menu range from biryanis to tiffins, and griddle-cooked breads with vegetables and/or meats. Finish the meal with the traditional rice and Indian ice cream. For beverages, you might want to try either a mango lassi or a mango milk shake.
