| Tracy’s Borkum’s Kensington Grill remains a favorite, not only for neighborhood folks but for all of San Diego. Remodeled for the second time in its ten-year history, it includes both a sophisticated foyer-cum-gift shop and a more accommodating patio. Ambience plays a big part here: the décor is subdued, the lighting low, the mood hip. We like chef Ted Witte’s soups, especially the silky potato-bacon; and the gnocchi with tender duck confit, English peas, spinach and creamy Gorgonzola. Alas, the ahi disappoints with its strong, fishy flavor. A better choice is the cheese plate, which includes Maytag blue, aged goat cheese and Trappist-style cow’s milk. Among main courses, try the sea bass with horseradish crust and the rib-eye with grilled onions. But our favorite is still the Ken burger served on focaccia with thin, crispy fries. |
