| The inspiration of sisters Laurie and Leslie Coaston, Kingfish Café uses family recipes to create its menu of sophisticated Southern fare. Dishes include huge portions of slow-roasted pork chops topped with fruit chutney, catfish cooked on a sizzling griddle, spicy gumbo, and a signature mac ‘n’ cheese. We like Miss Choo Choo’s Company’s Comin’ rib-eye, which gets gussied up with a spicy peach relish and lush corn pudding. For something lighter, order a bowl of the crayfish and corn chowder with a side of yam fries. Be sure to save room for the moist red velvet cake or bread pudding prepared with chunks of apples and laced with bourbon sauce. Service is warm and professional, and the setting features an old-world ambience in a room with high, deep blue ceilings, velvet drapes, and subtle lighting. Go early or go mid-week to avoid the inevitable wait, since seating is first-come, first-served. |
