Dining room at Kinzie Chophouse, Chicago, IL

This is a Chicago steakhouse that doesn't get as much respect as it deserves. The joint is located in the shadow of the Merchandise Mart, so the lunch business is the main meal of the day. However, an early dinner and bar crowd keeps the wolf from the door. Steaks and prime rib are the menu strengths, but you’ll also find options like portobello ravioli with Marsala sauce and goat cheese and rock shrimp risotto. There are plenty of comfort foods, too, including a fine grilled meatloaf, chicken Parm and chicken potpie. About a dozen steak choices are available, plus several well-wrought seafood selections. Service is quite good. The atmosphere needs to be perked up a bit, though (so does the wine list).
