Kipos Greek Taverna Restaurant Review

: The Triangle area’s most exuberant and prolific restaurateur/chef, George Bakatsias, is behind Kipos, which celebrates the cuisine of his native country. Bakatsias’ flair for decorating is apparent in the bold colors, festive lighting, and rustic tables in the dining rooms that exude a Greek island ambience. All the expected Greek classics are here: moussaka, pastitsio, avgolemono soup, souvlakia, keftedes. We recommend the fresh salads (Kipos means “garden”), the house-baked breads, the savory phyllo pies made by Bakatsias’ sister, Olga, the whole grilled fish (often branzini) and rotisserie lamb and chicken. Finish with a house-made walnut-laden baklava or a slice of Olga’s phyllo-crusted cheesecake. The wine list is devoted to Greek labels exclusively, and there are many good selections. Be aware that when there's entertainment such as live music and traditional dancing the atmosphere can become pretty lively --- and loud.
