Popular for its American food with occasional innovative twists and its wraparound sidewalk patio, Kokomo offers an extensive menu of breakfasts, sandwiches and salads. In the morning, begin with catfish and eggs or eggs Benedict or Sardou, and at lunch tuck into a good burger (beef, veggie or ahi), a multi-cheese grilled cheese paired with a good smoky tomato soup, or a relatively traditional Cuban sandwich. Any time of day is right for fried chicken and waffles. The interior is an intimate space with an open kitchen, trendy cubist chandeliers and some Hollywood Regency wallpaper. Kokomo is perfect for this upbeat, diverse neighborhood. A second branch, called K2, is in Silver Lake at 3916 W. Sunset Blvd., 323-662-7698.
