Restaurants like Kres are bringing diners downtown for power lunches and chic dinners. The same team that opened Hue in Thornton Park is behind this 210-seat chophouse, decorated with lots of wood with bold red accents and crisp white tablecloths, all softly lit with fresh flowers on each table. Start with oysters Rockefeller, Aegean-style lamb ribs or the classic steak tartare prepared tableside. Meat is the star of the show---there are some showoffs like a 20-ounce cowboy rib-eye, but the less assuming braised Wagyu cheeks with wild mushroom risotto is just as tasty. Fish gets a supporting role with tuna, corvina, swordfish and lobster tail. Carrot cake made by downtown dessert maven The Dessert Lady and other sweets round out the menu. More than 100 wine selections offer something for every taste and pocketbook. Open until midnight, it's a sophisticated spot for after-theater drinks or a late dinner.
