On the grounds of the old Atlanta Stove Works plant, Atlanta chef Kevin Rathbun operates his Rathbun's restaurant. In this tiny space, he installed one of the city's most progressive and adventurous wine bars. The kitchen maintains the inventive small plates and tapas menu, a tough assignment given that no cooking goes on here. Arrivals start as early as 4:30 p.m. to explore the new selections on the wine list driven by discovery mode. Don't expect the usual suspects. For example, the Azienda Agricola Monte del Frá Bardolino 2009 is a splendid summer red, although you have to ask that it be chilled just a notch for maximum pleasure. It pairs well with the duck breast with fig jam and sprout salad. Large tables encourage sharing dishes from a menu that changes seasonally. A corkage fee ($26) is charged for any bottles patrons bring in from outside. The best seating may well be the upholstered banquettes lining the outdoor patio---comfortable (the stools inside are not) and conversation-inviting (the interior with its blaring, pulsating "music" is not).
