| This longstanding restaurant (1989) is a true family-owned and -operated establishment. Owners Kurt and Vreny Eisele, who are German, from Stuttgart, and German Swiss respectively, now have aboard their son, Alexander. Despite being enclosed in a business complex, the setting remains pastoral, reflecting the building's original life as a wealthy farmer's rural summer abode. Numerous private dining spaces make this popular for business dinners, wine dinners and weddings. This is the spot for home-style German fare: schnitzels and sauerbraten, rouladen and spätzle. The red cabbage and bread dumplings accompanying the rouladen, with its traditional pickle, are spot on. So is the rouladen itself. We like the spätzle with cheese and onions, a filling meal deal. Don't miss the strudel for dessert. The wine list has lots to recommend, from the Kurt's 23 section---all priced at $23 a bottle---to the extraordinary selections housed in a special cellar. German wines, of course, have a prominent presence, and the Bordeaux section is surprising. In addition, there's a good selection of imported beers, with an emphasis on German and Belgian choices. |
