La Carreta Restaurant Review

: This old-timer is still a solid choice for those seeking consistent Cuban classics at bargain prices. It's always easy to find a La Carreta, too; the best-known Cuban eatery in Miami, now expanded to Broward County, is a mini-empire with almost a dozen locations. For those craving casual food, the La Carreta special sandwich, a more savory Tampa-style upgrade of the traditional Cuban (with Spanish chorizo added) is a good choice. At some locations, cafeteria-style counters display traditional, hot Cuban specialties---soups like black bean or cream of malanga; vaca frita (fried beef); ham croquetas; plantains and numerous other homey starches---while other more formal spaces (most notably Calle Ocho's original La Carreta) boast more extensive menus. With whatever you order, don't miss the yuca fries with cilantro garlic aïoli, or robust Cuban coffee.
