La Peniche Restaurant Review: La Peniche attracts everybody from the after-hours bar crowd to ladies who lunch. Bargeboard walls and white lace curtains lend a rustic air to the Faubourg Marigny joint, though the vibe turns more rollicking as the hours pass and more hungry patrons turn up after a night on the town. Hamburgers, fried seafood and red beans are all done competently, though the main draw seems to be breakfast served any time. The poached egg dishes and omelets are simple and more than satisfactory. Usually found on the brunch board is something like poached eggs Sardou (atop creamed spinach, a fresh artichoke bottom and with a passable hollandaise). Daily desserts may include Key lime or peanut butter pie. La Peniche closes the first two and a half weeks of July for vacation. |
