La Scarola, Chicago, IL

La Scarola Restaurant Review

: This small eatery is one of those inexpensive, casual Italian spots that is real and reliable. And while it’s nothing fancy, after one bite of the escarole and beans, sausage and peppers or spaghetti and meatballs you’ll barely notice. More finely tuned, less rustic dishes range from lemony, garlicky whitefish to flavorful cappellini with shrimp and arugula in a spicy tomato sauce. You’ll also find familiar fare like chicken Vesuvio and more interesting eats like risotto primavera topped with creamy goat cheese or veal in sherry wine sauce. Be sure to finish with the tiramisu, and team everything with affordable wines.
