La Terrazza Restaurant Review: Enchanting frescoed walls, hand-painted floors, an opulent lounge, a monumental double-sided fireplace, and a garden patio make La Terrazza one of the most beautiful dining rooms in Vancouver. In summer, a row of French doors opens onto a large terrace, which adds an alfresco setting even for the inside tables. Chef Gennaro Iorio’s cuisine is modern Northern Italian. Start with thin bison tenderloin, grainy Dijon aïoli, wild arugula and crispy root vegetable chips, or the grilled Humboldt squid, buttermilk fried prawns, toasted garlic and pepperoncino lime reduction. Pasta dishes are simple yet inspired, such as Chef Gennaro’s family recipe for strozzapreti with AAA beef tenderloin ragù and grana padano. The kitchen’s creativity shines brightest when it comes to main courses; consider the pan-seared Fraser Valley duck breast, braised duck leg and roasted shallot ricotta tart with cranberry orange emulsion. Dolci (sweets) feature a pear and almond tart with butterscotch sauce and vanilla gelato, tiramisu, and salted shortbread with caramelized banana. The wine list is wide-ranging without being overbearing, and includes upstart regions as well as innovative vintners. Equally pleasing is the discreet yet attentive service.
