Dining room at The Landmark Restaurant, Dallas, TXOne of the prettiest rooms in town, this venerable spot in the circa 1924 Melrose Hotel has blossomed in the last decade under a succession of talented chefs. Former sous chef Michael Pacheco has become the chef de cuisine, continuing to develop the Landmark's reputation for fine progressive American food. Though menu items can sound overly complicated and change with the season, the results are usually delightful. The five spice calamari with Asian greens and sweet Thai vinaigrette nicely balances contrasting textures and flavors for a succulent starter. Entrées tend toward the grand---braised lamb shank “Milanaise” and grilled veal chops with garlic mashed potatoes are standouts as is the cedar plank salmon served with grilled peach chutney glaze and sweet potato matchsticks. The elegant décor, soft hued walls, and discreet service make The Landmark a great place for a big date.
