| Owners Orn and Tom Chotiyanonta, who also own an older sibling restaurant in Redlands, have sensibly put the emphasis on the Vietnamese side of their menu at this Thai-Vietnamese eatery. Vietnamese cuisine is a scarcity in the desert, and Le Basil has proved a draw within Palm Desert's wide range of restaurants. Standout appetizers are the Vietnamese fresh rolls, or the grape leaves rolled with beef. Curries are run-of-the-mill, but the clay pot fish or the ginger fish are worthy entrées. The most popular items are the pho with meatballs and the bun (Vietnamese vermicelli noodles). For meat-eaters, there are many beef options, including Le Basil steak, which is marinated, sliced, stir-fried and served over salad. For vegetarians, there are plenty of tofu choices. Three varieties of chili sauce are on offer to ensure your dishes will be as hot and spicy as you might like. If you have room for dessert, try the fried banana with coconut ice cream. The welcome is warm and the service enthusiastic. |
