THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Le Midi Restaurant Review:
This is the latest brainchild of chef/owner Moncef Meddeb, who opens and closes restaurants with frightening frequency (his former projects include Aigo Bistro, 8 Holyoke, and LEspalier). Le Midi, a mid-range Provençal, is wedged into the side of International Places glass-walled circular lobby temporarily affording an unfortunate view of the Big Dig. It occupies a vast soaring space furnished with well-spaced tables and oak banquettes. Mostly, this is a lunch-only destination frequented by suits and their expense account clients, but Meddeb has started serving dinners on Thursday and Friday nights. For now the food is confusingly hit-and-miss. A bouillabaisse displays the chef/owners hallmark delicacy with French regional classics---as aromatic as it is flavorful---and an endive and goat cheese salad is enticingly austere. But something as simple as a steak can be brutally overcooked.
