With DC's notable chef Yannick Cam overseeing its menu and cooking, Le Relais has become a real destination restaurant---a bit pricey, but elegantly understated, and definitely a place for real celebratory meals. We stopped by for lunch recently and enjoyed one of Cam's creations, highlighted by very good bread---we longed for second helpings---and dressed up with fine linens and cutlery. The entrée, a risotto with shrimp vied for special applause with the boudin blanc. We contemplated trying one of the very special desserts, or to end up with several cups of coffee, but did not linger on. The restaurant offers a tasting menu, and clever patrons will consider the daily specials before placing an order. Before or after dinner, consider spending leisurely moments in the restaurant's glassed-in bar area, from which point you can look longingly across the room to the glassed-in wine cellar. In clement and warm weather, the outdoors terrace makes for an elegant setting.
