Lincoln Restaurant Restaurant Review

: Lincoln is located in one of Portland's trend-setting neighborhoods, actually an inspired mall on North Williams Avenue. From the concrete floors to the exposed wood trusses, the ambience parallels the no-nonsense cooking. Most of the starters include some nod to meat innards, whether it be the beef tongue, the roasted marrow with sweetbreads, or the lettuce with pig ears and bacon. Even the "bulls blood" beets sound carnivorous. Pastas, such as a ricotta cavatelli with rabbit ragoût, may be ordered in small or large portions. A simple dish of polenta with ham, chanterelle mushrooms, sage and brown butter showcases the distinct individual taste of each ingredient. The brief entrée menu typically includes a simple roasted chicken dish, grilled hanger steak with blue cheese butter, and a few seasonal options such as local albacore with mizuna. Portions tend to the smallish, except for the above-mentioned half chicken. For dessert, go old-school and choose a hot fudge or caramel sundae, or creamy chocolate panna cotta. Cocktail, wine and beer selections are varied and affordable, all served by an attentive and friendly staff.
