Livingston Restaurant + Bar Restaurant Review

: A nineteenth-century mayor of Atlanta, Livingston Mims was famous for his hospitality and love of food and wine. His house stood on this corner in 1879. Today, he is honored with his first name gracing this Atlanta establishment and his last name its casual coffee and pastry bar, Café Mims. Chef Michael Semancik has cooked far and wide, and has developed a menu that takes advantage of locally grown raw materials and local culinary traditions. Roasted beets with goat cheese could use a little more time in the oven, but the beets were pristine and the goat cheese enlivened with tupelo honey from Savannah Bee Company and blood orange. Minced chicken livers fill gyoza that are served with crispy kale and a Georgia peanut and cherry sauce. We also recommend the Maine diver scallops with a tasso-and-corn chowder as a sauce and little neck clams. Have a glass of the 2009 Corte alla Flora Bianco from Tuscany with this dish. Sweet tea pressed crispy duck was cooked sous vide, resulting in a meat that was, in our view, overcooked and dried out. Warm chocolate cake with a caramel sea salt ice cream and shortbread wafer is a dessert of dreams. Meanwhile, the Manhattan is made with barrel-aged rye, and the wine list offers numerous quite worthy selections. Morgan "Côtes du Crow," a Rhône-style blend, is just such a choice.
