Local Gastropub Restaurant Review: Forget the typical bar food menu of lackluster burgers and hot wings. At Local Gastropub, the food is fit for a gourmet despite the casual ambience. Exposed brick walls and bar-style track lighting give the place a chic urban feel. Burgers and fries are on the menu, but the patties are dressed with tomato jam and caramelized onions and the fries are dusted with smoked sea salt. Wings come coated in an Asian garlic sauce; the fish ‘n’ chips is accompanied by a green onion aïoli; and braised pork shank pairs with a Gouda polenta cake. The restaurant is located just blocks from both the Orpheum Theatre and FedExForum; it’s ideal for locals gathering pre-show to share a “pub plate” of wings or sea scallops. The wine list is uninspired, so you’ll do better with the brews (this is a pub, after all). Desserts, however, do not disappoint. Check out the bread pudding on any given evening; it can vary daily. Also located at 2126 Madison Ave., 901-725-1845.
