| At first glance, one might think Local only serves casual burgers and fries. Not so. This laidback pub dishes out gourmet grub without all the finery, amid exposed brick walls and bar-style track lighting. There’s a mix of classy sandwiches (like the Kobe steak farm fresh egg sandwich or the New Orleans-style muffaletta) and seafood (think Creole shrimp and grits), and steaks such as the fire-grilled Tuscan rib-eye. Daily changing soups promise warming, light fare. Salads are nicely constructed with large wedges of lettuce and homemade croutons. The restaurant is located just blocks from both the Orpheum Theatre and FedExForum; it’s ideal for locals gathering pre-show to share a “pub plate” of wings, sea scallops or Delta fish ‘n’ chips. The wine list is uninspired, so you’ll do better with the brews (this is a pub, after all). The desserts, however, do not disappoint. |
