The Loft Restaurant Review: Casual gourmet perfectly describes The Loft, which occupies the fourth floor of Laguna Beach’s hippest and perhaps most beautiful hotel, Montage Laguna Beach. This California bistro serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner, along with a spectacular ocean view. As for seating, choose from the outdoor patio or the main dining room. Executive chef Casey Overton has created a menu that transforms local, seasonal ingredients into delicately presented dishes containing well-balanced flavor profiles of savory, tart, sweet and sour. Breakfast may begin with house-smoked salmon or a bananas Foster waffle, while lunch offers delights such as a rotisserie chicken sandwich with grilled ciabatta and pepperoncini basil pesto. At dinner, guests can choose from seasonal inspirations or signature dishes, including the coffee-crusted New York strip with Fourme d’Ambert blue cheese, wild arugula and a bourbon-caramel sauce. A meal at The Loft is also about the wine and cheese. If you like, the dining room's sommelier can guide you through choosing any wine by the glass or bottle, or pair each course with pours from all over the world. The Loft has its own fromager, Jason Truckenmiller, who is passionate about serving a cheese course from the pantry of 150 artisanal options, dozens of the world's hard-to-find honeys and other accoutrements. Pastry chef Lee Smith adds more skill to the final course with his apple tart.
