 Lou Mitchell's is the kind of place where you'd take your visiting out-of-town mother or favorite aunt. (They'd approve of your good taste.) More than a dozen fluffy omelets --- from Michigan apples and cheddar cheese to garden-fresh zucchini and tomato --- are house specialties. We would wait in line (in fact, we often have) for the good french toast (which we set afloat in pure maple syrup) or the Belgian waffle. The pastries --- danishes, donuts, pecan rolls, muffins --- are all made in the kitchen, and they're all seriously fresh and consistently good. Juices are freshly squeezed, and the rich coffee is just the thing to perk you up. It's a busy place, but the logging-camp conviviality is good fun.
