Hardly fashionable, tiny Louisiana Express has been a consistent winner in everyone’s book for its exciting, spicy fare and rock-bottom prices. As the name suggests, its menu is all fast Louisiana food, which makes its takeout service a reasonable option if you’ve double-parked. Otherwise, sit back in this casual place and enjoy the dark and potent gumbos; the overstuffed Po’ Boys with oysters, catfish or assorted other fillings; and other Louisiana staples such as étouffée and jambalaya. Although it’s not Southern, the house hamburger with rémoulade, Creole mustard and peppers is a real winner. So, too, the hot dog with andouille sausage. Breakfast fare is less Southern, but you’ll find eggs Sardou and beignets.
