LowBrau Restaurant Review

: Sacramento’s self-proclaimed “King of ze Wurst” has taken a centuries-old concept --- the beerhall --- and transformed it into a hipster-chic hangout. Housed in a popular midtown entertainment district, LowBrau is rustic yet modern, classy yet relaxed. The décor is faintly woodsy, lined with birch trunks and whitewashed cuckoo clocks. Long communal tables encourage socializing, while a shaded outdoor patio is both dog- and kid-friendly. The menu is simple, featuring sausages, sandwiches and sides explicitly designed to accompany the real draw --- beer. Favorites include traditional bratwurst, bockwurst and frankfurters, plunked inside house-made pretzel rolls with a choice of toppings, including a guilt-inducing bier cheese sauce. Other favorites include the equally indulgent duck fat fries, also served “dirty” style with hot peppers and caramelized onions. The extensive beer menu includes lagers, stouts, IPAs, ciders and everything in between, including a large selection of locally-crafted artisan brews. Stick around after hours to see local musicians perform and local DJs spin.
