LuLu Restaurant Review:
LuLu is where artists, writers and the boho-chic crowd go for a home-style fix and mellow setting. Locally famous for its sides of Asian slaw and homemade potato chips with blue cheese sauce, this eatery is tucked into a busy intersection in the Bay View neighborhood. The original storefront resembles a 1950s retro diner, while an addition has high ceilings, a 16-stool bar and table seating. Daily specials are scrawled on a chalkboard, and the menu also includes a half-pound burger topped with Gorgonzola and bacon; pita sandwiches; and about a dozen melts and sandwiches served on baguettes (get the Cajun-seasoned yellowfin tuna). Health-conscious diners can order salads; we like a modern twist on the Waldorf with Flame grapes and green apples. Sunday’s brunch menu features bourbon-almond french toast, blue cornmeal pancakes and house-made buttermilk biscuits, smothered in pork sausage gravy. Local brews are on tap, and mixed drinks adopt seasonal ingredients. Save room for dessert, and especially a slice of seasonal fruit pie.
