Chef Michael Leviton is a local boy done very, very good as the proprietor of this French go-to right across from the West Newton Cinema. Formerly an ice cream parlor, the space is refined yet striking in off-whites, thanks to star designer Sandra Fairbank. The menu is likewise cool and thoughtful and Leviton's sense of restraint crystal-clear in dishes like seared scallops with artichokes, chestnuts, celeriac and cider or skate with cauliflower grenobloise and mustard vinaigrette. And though the food is costly, a smart selection of wines by the glass has yet to hit the price-heights scaled by Lumière's downtown counterparts. Leviton also gets props for throwing business to local purveyors whenever possible---places like Allandale, Siena, and Verrill farms. |
