Mac's Shack Restaurant Review: This casual seafood joint is Wellfleet’s hidden gem. (Although you won’t think it’s so hidden when you see the locals lined up, waiting up to two hours for a table in high season.) An outdoor raw bar also serves impeccably fresh sushi. The bar offers a lively scene in a laidback atmosphere and some of the Cape's finest raw dishes like Hawaiian poke salad, littlenecks and, of course, Wellfleet oysters. Indoors, the restaurant has a full American seafood menu in addition to the sushi selections. There are typical seaside joint offerings like fried clams and a lobster roll. But the menu also offers more creative inventions like a snow crab cake with bacon-corn salsa, tempura fried pickles and coconut curry scallops. Options for those who prefer meat are available, but dishes like the house-smoked fish, sea bass sashimi and local bluefish are what make the wait in line worthwhile. Dessert is not the star here; there is no menu but the selection changes nightly. Drinks, however, are a priority, with an ample list of wines by the glass and creative cocktails for pairing.
