Mac's Shack Restaurant Review: This casual seafood joint is Wellfleet’s not-so-secret “hidden” gem. An outdoor sushi and raw bar offers a lively scene in a laidback atmosphere and some of the Cape's finest raw dishes, like jalapeño yellowtail sashimi, littlenecks and, of course, Wellfleet oysters. Indoors, the restaurant has a full American seafood menu in addition to the sushi. There are typical seaside joint offerings like fried clams and a lobster roll, but more creative inventions, too, like Ritz cracker-crusted bluefish, shark burgers and lobster tortellini with bisque sauce. Options for those who prefer meat are available, but items like the innovative sushi rolls and Wellfleet oysters are what make the wait in line worthwhile (up to two hours for a table in high season). Seafood is also the star at lunch with a variety of salads, sandwiches and the raw bar. Dessert is not a highlight; there is no menu, but the selection changes nightly. Drinks, however, are a priority, with an ample list of wines by the glass and imaginative cocktails for pairing. Oyster fans should not miss the bold list of shooters, like the Russian Flute combining a fresh Wellfleet oyster with Russian vodka, sour cream and tobiko.
