THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES MacTarnahan’s Taproom Restaurant Review: Set well within the Northwest industrial area, MacTarnahan’s is off the beaten path, but the distinctive smell of brewing hops, bright lights, and occasional live music will lead you to its door. Inside, there's a welcoming atmosphere, ample craft beers, and some of the best brewpub fare in the city. Casual and friendly, in contemporary Pacific Northwest-style, the fireplace-lit rooms are extra welcoming when temperatures drop. With 12 distinctive brews on tap, this is first and foremost a place for beer tasting, and the sampler tray with five small tastes is a popular choice. As for food, heartier appetites will enjoy meats prepared in the apple wood-fired oven, most notably the roast chicken and the pulled pork. Start your meal with a savory crab dip with onions and cream cheese, accompanied by pita chips. Lighter eaters may order the chicken salad with greens, pasta, feta cheese, hazelnuts, peppers and an ale vinaigrette. There are also fish tacos, chili, garlic mashed potatoes, and a cheese and onions casserole. Very garlicky rosemary fries arrive with almost everything. It's a friendly place for families, with high chairs, crayons, draft root beer, and a reasonably priced, kid-pleasing menu.
