| Veteran Louisville restaurateur Majid Ghavami launched this establishment, with its elegant but comfortable series of dining rooms featuring a silver, black and grey décor accented with dashes of purple and brightly lit fish tanks set in the walls. Favorite starters on chef Charles Reed's eclectic menu, which includes dishes from Ghavami's native Iran, are kashke bademjon (roasted eggplant spread with onion, garlic mint and saffron); cardamom-and-cinnamon scented quail stuffed with apples, walnuts and golden raisins; and---since this is Louisville, after all---shrimp and grits. Among entrées are pork Diablo with horseradish mustard cream sauce, rack of lamb seasoned with fresh lemon and sumac, and roasted crispy duck with orange marmalade glaze. Don’t miss the dill and lima bean basmati rice that comes with the lamb; ask to have it with your main dish of choice. Like the rest of the menu, the dessert offerings gather flavors from a range of cuisines, from crème brûlée to white chocolate banana cream pie. Lingering is encouraged with cocktails and a carefully selected wine list that includes choices from the Middle East and Greece along with American selections (including one or two from the home state). |
