| An arrival on M Street in downtown DC, this Malaysian eatery has moved in from Wheaton and renamed itself. Kopitiam means coffeehouse, a term that doesn't adequately describe the full range of food. Most dishes are traditional, although some, such as the stuffed lotus root, are the chef-owner's invention. We can highly recommend the various dishes and swear by the roti canai and roti wrap, both starring an unusual Indian-style bread. If you like heat, add the beef rendang to your meal. Sample one of the restaurant's native desserts, from tapioca cake to kuih lapis. The kitchen may stumble on a few flavors, but the lively menu reads like the country's travel log. |
