Steven Arroyo of Cobras & Matadors fame dishes up casual-but-stylish Mexican food at this self-billed “taquería Chicana” in Silver Lake. Start with chips fried to order, accompanied by such creative salsas as a blend of roasted árbol chilies and Spanish chocolate, tomatillo with Hass avocado, or burnt habanero chilies with crème fraîche. Fillings for the soft or fried tacos, which come two to the order, include braised beef, squash blossom, carnitas, beer-battered shrimp and grilled fish of the day. The menu also includes soups, salads, ceviches, enchiladas and such à la carte items as fiery shrimp diablo and pumpkin enchiladas. Monday through Friday from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. is “hora felíz” (happy hour), featuring margaritas, beer with tequila shots and bargain chips and tacos.
