Ma'ono Fried Chicken & Whisky, Seattle, WA

Ma'ono Fried Chicken & Whisky Restaurant Review

: The menu circles the Pacific with Northwest ingredients, American whiskey, Hawaiian side dishes and Korean-style chicken. Ma'ono bills itself as a fried chicken and whiskey destination, which conjures up a far more casual image than this sleek, modern reality. The star of the show is pricey but first-rate fried chicken, a concept that evolved from the popular Monday night fried chicken dinners from the same chef and owner's previous effort, Spring Hill Restaurant & Bar. Brined and then soaked in buttermilk, an order of chicken at Ma'ono (the word means "make tasty" in Hawaiian) is $40 for 10 huge, juicy pieces ($21 for a half order), plus kimchi, rice and dipping sauces. Not a chicken fan? The bacon cheeseburger --- left over from the Spring Hill days --- is legendary. The menu also includes noodle bowls and loco moco. For dessert, try the banana cream pie with cocoa nibs in its crust, or the popcorn ice cream. At brunch, you may order fried chicken nuggets with French toast. Cocktails are another highlight, and there's also a decent selection of whiskey and Scotch.
