Mario’s Restaurant Restaurant Review: Mario's is one of those Detroit eateries that’s been serving pretty much the same kind of food in the same tried-and-true way since it first opened in the 1940s. You are guaranteed a valet will handle your car (they'll even get it washed while you are eating if you want). A coat-checker-hostess meets you at the door and treats you like family. Expect good, hearty Italian fare like chicken cacciatore, rigatoni, veal scallopine, Dover sole and big salads. A friendly touch: a few of the more beloved recipes are written on the back of the menu, in case you want to duplicate the effort at home. The wine list offers labels from around the globe with, as you would expect, a significant number from Italy; by-the-glass selections are available, too. To complete the mood, there is ballroom dancing on weekends in the Crystal Room.
