Mariposa Restaurant Review: Escape to the third floor to find this lovely and inviting eatery to quench a thirst and to enjoy a respite from shopping center bustle. The crowd is made up of predominately local residents and includes a regular gathering of ladies who lunch, socialites who high-tea, and marathon shoppers run ragged in need of sustenance. All dine graciously and unhurriedly in an airy setting of neutral colors and tropical accents with huge panoramic windows that embrace the sweeping views of Ala Moana Park, Ala Wai Marina and the blue Pacific Ocean beyond. Special touches are appreciated, like a small bowl of chicken consommé to start, which sets the tone and cleanses the palate, and the large, delicate popovers accompanied by a hard to come by poha butter. Chef Mark Freiberg adds many fresh notes to the menu such as lamb chops with eggplant couscous while retaining favorites: seafood curry, apple wood salmon salad and butterscotch-macadamia nut pie.
