Maruko Sushi Restaurant Review

: Claiming the space vacated by Matuba, this sushi place offers many of the same staffers and sushi chefs, and that is a crowd pleaser. Fish is very fresh, the kind of freshness one associates with high-end Japanese restaurants, and the chefs are true artisans, presenting food with artful cuts, curls and garnishes: artwork on the plate, and almost too pretty to eat. Service is friendly, nothing curt nor abrupt. At any sushi restaurant, of course, it’s a toss-up about which to order: all sushi, all sashimi, a combo, or the rice-rich chirashi sushi, which here is especially appealing. But if you come to Maruko with someone who prefers meat to seafood, don’t worry. The kitchen can whip up fried pork, chicken teriyaki, and assorted noodle dishes. You might also want to start with the fiery bites of peppery sea scallops: check the specials blackboard for availability. Note that saké, wine and beer, plus hot green tea, can accompany any meal.
