Ma’s Fish Camp Restaurant Review: The name is not a tribute to a mother, but the initials of the two founding owners, both former professional fishermen. Chalkboard specials always list more kinds of catch of the day, and more unusual varieties of fish, than most anywhere you’ll find in the Keys --- all personally chosen by discerning owner, Mike Burgreen. From there, all accompaniments are made in house and from scratch, including tomato-based conch chowder with just the right amount of peppery sting. Other standouts include a chopped salad (one of everything, all crunched together) and fish tacos with queso fresco. Saving room for dessert is required, as the baker excels at all the greats: hummingbird, coconut, German chocolate and strawberry shortcake, not to mention a top-notch Key lime pie. |
