THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Masa Restaurant Review: Come for the style, stay for the salsa. This freshly inventive café at the Nicollet Mall serves up elegance and fun in equal measure. The work crowd flocks in for lunch specials and after work happy hour at the bar, but the mood is decidedly more pleasure than business. This is the kind of place you can seal the deal with a client and come back for dinner to wow a date. Soaring glass chandeliers illuminate the expansive gold and silver dining room, while attentive servers help patrons navigate a menu that spans from traditional, maize-based comfort food (tacos al pastor) to innovative meat and seafood dishes (sea bass marinated in adobo pastor and tequila). Standouts include the chicken tamale steamed in a banana leaf with lush red molito sauce and rich, braised duck enchiladas. Fruit-flavored margaritas, notoriously sweet at many establishments, shine here thanks to inclusions like fresh, pink guava and blood orange purées. We like to end dinner with the tres leches cake, a heavenly version of the tried-and-true classic.
