THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Masso Osteria Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Chef, author, TV personality and restaurateur Scott Conant returned to Las Vegas with his Masso Osteria Italian eatery inside Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa. “Masso” in the restaurant’s name means “boulder” in Italian, chosen to reflect the rocky desert landscape that surrounds the city and the nearby Red Rock Mountains for which the resort is named. The interior is graced with a wood beam ceiling, an open kitchen, rustic white brick walls and Conant’s favorite saying: "Peace Love Pasta" in neon lighting.
Likes: Dishes are shareable and come in a range of prices to fit nearly any budget.
Dislikes: The acoustics of the room allow for a robust clamor, so if a lively vibe isn’t your thing, plan on dining during off-peak times.
Food & Drinks: Good beginnings are the classic veal/pork meatballs with capers, fregola, concentrated tomatoes and salsa verde; or recco-style garlic bread wood-fired with stracchino. The pasta menu is well represented with gemelli --- two types of pasta shapes dressed with sausage, peas and tomato. The D.O.C.G. is a rich pizzette combining fonduta, truffles and poached egg. Main courses include a robust, sizable boneless veal chop Milanese with arugula salad and cedar roasted whole sea bass with tomato glaze and grilled vegetables. Around 300 wines are offered, 34 by the glass, with vintages mainly from Italy, as well as a collection from Argentina, France and California. The Sommelier’s Pick offers seven choices in 1-, 3- or 6-oz pours. Dining at a Scott Conant restaurant is not complete without indulging in his signature salted caramel budino, with contrasting sweet and salty layers topped with a gianduja crumble.
