| Matsu’s contemporary interior creates a welcome sense of calm, with generously spaced tables in an open, airy dining room. Light wood floors, rice paper curtains and white-clothed tables are perhaps not groundbreaking décor, but each element helps to set the right mood. The sushi bar offers up nigiri, maki, specialty rolls and combinations (sushi served with salad and miso soup). Specialty rolls like Buddy Buddy---tuna, hamachi and wasabi tobiko topped with fresh salmon and ikura---are not only delicious but also fun to order. Fire Island, a California roll with crunchy tempura topped with spicy tuna and scallions, is a good choice for sushi fans and beginners alike. For the sushi shy, the kitchen offers tuna and beef tataki, grilled skewers of chicken, beef and pork and over a dozen tempura veggies. Clay pot and noodle dishes are especially appealing during colder months. Matsu’s sister restaurant, SASA Matsu, is in Cleveland’s Shaker Square neighborhood. |
