Mayfield Bakery & Cafe Restaurant Review: Brown butcher paper over white tablecloths, white-washed beams, an open kitchen format, and plenty of windows result in a casual, vibrant environment. Lunch and dinner menus offer California comfort food with a focus on seasonal ingredients. Bread and bakery driven dishes are a highlight, as are the desserts. Take care to study the ingredients as an unfamiliar pepper on a pizza can deliver more heat than you seek, while a sweet sauce on a savory dish may be ideal for one diner, and an unexpected turn for another. The wine list includes 20-plus wines by the glass and a thoughtful selection of bottles. Finish dinner after the bakery closes (7 p.m. most nights) and you’ll get the gift of bread left over from the day, something that started as an occasional practice but has become an expected, and appreciated, tradition. |
