| Meli means “honey” in Greek, and this likeable bistro-pâtisserie, a member of the Kali’s Court restaurant family, generates lots of good buzz. Bee puns are almost irresistible here, as the upstairs dining room cultivates a beehive motif with its honeycombed ceilings and metalwork, the pâtisserie sells artisan honeys, and many of the dishes, including savories, include the sweet stuff. The name and the ownership may be Greek, but the menu is pan-European, and about evenly divided between small plates and bountifully portioned entrées, including a grilled chicken penne with fresh spinach and fennel and a touch of saffron honey, and a spicy tuna burger topped with smoky pancetta and homemade Boursin cheese. The pâtisserie menu is huge, so save room for temptations that range from the biggest baklava in town to a glamorous chocolate bombe sprinkled with edible gold. |
