Melt Bar & Grilled Restaurant Review: While there are a handful of others now opened around town, Lakewood is home to the original Melt Bar & Grilled, which takes the elemental grilled cheese sandwich to somewhere far more decadent. There are dozens of different concoctions on the menu, ranging from simple to complex. You can’t go wrong with any pick, but our favorites include “The Godfather,” which is basically lasagna on bread, as well as the “Rising Sun Melt” with crispy shrimp, Muenster, sweet Thai chili aïoli and tangy kimchi pickles. Monthly specials, vegan and vegetarian alternatives abound. Each melt is served with a mound of hand-cut fries and peppery slaw. The bar offers a wide array of domestic and international brews, grouped by origin and accompanied by helpful information, such as alcohol content. (The caveat is that the kitchen is not exceptionally fast and the wait for a table is generally very long, so one could knock back a few beers before receiving anything to cushion them.) While grilled cheese is the golden child, Melt also serves salads, starters and homemade soups, too. |
